Alastair Gibson of Carbon Art 45 is a South African born artist based near Oxford, where him and his team create a variety of Carbon Fibre sculptures in his bespoke studio.
Alastair’s keen interest in Marine life began with his annual family vacations to the Natal South Coast in South Africa. He was also exposed to marine life while serving in the South African army. He later went on to take sculpture classes so he could interpret the way he saw fish and sea creatures that he found intriguing.
His other passion is motor racing influenced by his father, Alastair Snr. With an education in balance-engineering, Alastair headed to Europe with an ambition to work in the motor sport industry which eventually spanned 22 years! 14 of those years were spent in Formula1; 4years as Lead Mechanic for the Benetton F1 Team and 10 years as race team Chief Mechanic for the BAR and Honda Grand Prix Teams.
Combining these two passions of motorsport and his love for the natural world, Alastair reuses genuine F1 car parts which he sources from Grand Prix teams to create his signature Carbon Fibre Sculptures.
Alastair’s work has been exhibited worldwide and he is now recognised as a forerunner in carbon fibre sculpting.
