Shame on you if you don’t already know him but let me introduce you to Joel Poole of Populuxe anyway.
In a nutshell, he paints cool words on cool furniture but you will discover that yourself within the first few minutes of Googling him so let me tell you what you don’t know…
After keeping an eye on the Joel and his brand for some time we got in touch and after a visit to his studio in Sandbach, we took him on and became the first gallery to represent him as an artist!
We now have the largest collection of Joel’s furniture, artwork and mirrors! His work encompasses everything we are about at Hooked-colourful, humorous and functional too!
We recently filmed a segment with BBC’s Money for Nothing featuring this fantastic sock drawer by Joel, 'Put a Sock In It'.
He saved the drawers from going in the tip and after a lot of care and attention and the signature 'Populuxe touch' he brought it back to life and made it into a beautiful, one-off, piece of functional art that now sits proudly in our gallery!

More words painted on old things, and possibly lots and lots of pictures of a dog.
What is an unwritten rule when it comes to your work?
Will it make people smile?
What do you find yourself rolling your eyes at?
Nothing, everything has its place, and not everything is for everyone. It’s not up to me to judge what makes other people tick.
What is currently on your easel?
Nothing, my easel is shit at holding furniture. In fact, it’s shit full stop.
What is your go-to studio snack?
I don’t really eat in the day, I’m a keen intermittent faster. If I spend all day thinking about what to eat it uses up valuable brain that could be used to think about more interesting things.

Which of your own artworks is your favourite to date, and why?
I couldn’t pick one, it’s like picking your favourite child. They’re all my favourites for different reasons
What would your last ever meal on earth be?
I’d probably just have some toast. Keep it simple. I’d want plenty of wine though.
What is on your Bucket list?
I don’t have one. I try not to think about the future, it can cause too much disappointment if things don’t go the way you want. I just take each day as it comes, enjoy just being alive doing what I want to do.
What is your favourite subject matter to paint and why?
Words. I love language, I love how stupid the English language is and how one word can have numerous meanings and be spelt differently yet pronounced the same. It’s mental.
What is the most useless fact you know?
Too many to list, I have a mind of useless information. I’m pretty good at pub quizzes for that very reason.
What is the funniest joke you know off the top of your head?
My wife’s going to a fancy dress party as a Rastafarian and she’s asked me to do her hair. I’m dreading it. Big up to Shaun Keaveny for that one!
Any hidden talents or party tricks?
I’m pretty good at making wine disappear
