Vintage Mid Century record cabinet, with a design based on the MTV logo which was launched in 1981. The popularity of music television and the launch of CD a year or so later saw a heavy decline in vinyl sales leading to its near extinction. Ironically in recent years CD sales have rapidly declined with the advent of streaming services and MTV is now predominantly reality TV, and vinyl has seen a massive resurgence in sales and popularity.
