Born in Darlington in 1977, James Paterson has always worked towards being a professional artist throughout his schooling and further education where he studied for a Foundation Art Degree at Queen Elizabeth 6th Form College and then on to complete a Fine Art Degree at Nottingham Trent University.
With a passion for the history of art and taking inspiration from everyday objects, popular icons and print adverts, James creates his nostalgic paintings that seem to yearn for a time gone by.
He has both a figurative and abstract style to his work and encourages the viewer to become part of the painting to form their own ideas of what it might represent.
James explains: "I have always tried to make my paintings a collaboration, a calculation in which an answer can only be found with you as part of the equation."
